Courage to Stand

Mens Retreat 1On April 22 – 24, 2016, men from all over the Minnesota Conference, came together for a Men’s Retreat at the North Star Camp. The men’s retreat is designed to inspire, motivate and challenge men to be faithful in their calling. The men had the opportunity to relax, pray, fellowship with other men and also time to refocus their ministries.

Mens Retreat 2The keynote speaker was Ron Halvorsen Jr. a veteran speaker and pastor, who spoke on the theme “Courage to Stand”.  Ron did a masterful job of telling the stories of courage using Daniel 3 on young men, Numbers 13 about two middle age men and Joshua 14, about two older men. It was powerful to see about 150 committed Christian men, singing their heart out and responding with loud enthusiastic “Amen!” to the challenges from the Word of the Lord.

Men have unique challenges in today’s world and the retreat offered them opportunity to share and encourage each other moving forward.  One elder from Minneapolis First said, “We’re returning to our families and churches repurposed and eager to serve, lead and more dedicated to the course of our Lord.” In my discussion with the Men’s ministry leadership, I noted that this year’s group was larger.  It was obvious that there were a lot of new faces and also old regulars; men who have been attending the retreat over the years. I also noticed that there was even a group of men from our sister conference – Central States Conference.  An elder from Rochester Church noted that, “This year’s retreat shows a strong ethnic diversity in our Conference.”

The men enjoyed the food from the kitchen and were stunned by the beauty of the Donna Ward Lodge. Expressing their appreciation to NSC Board and the Conference leadership many said, “This building has changed the face of this camp and will go a long way to bring in a lot more groups to this camp ground!”
