2014 Community Health Fair

2014 Health Fair 3“I did not know I had high blood sugar problems. Thank God for the Community Health Fair! I have been able to receive high quality medical care through the community resources referrals I received.” This was a testimony from one of the attendees who was screened for a blood glucose reading of over 350 (normal 70 – 110 mg/dl).

2014 Health Fair 2The Kenyan Community Church in Brooklyn Center MN has been hosting an annual Community Health Fair to promote opportunities to eliminate health disparities in the Northeast Hennepin area for a number of years now. This event creates a general public awareness and leads community members to medical and health services that are available through public and private agencies.

2014 Health Fair 4The Kenyan Community Church had between 150-300 people attend the August 3, 2014 event, where they delivered on-site medical services and health education through community partners and volunteers. Zandu Health Initiative is the main co-sponsor, providing project management for the event.

Goals/Objectives:

  1. Provide free health care services, especially to the uninsured and underinsured with a focus on children and seniors.
  2. Engage the community in a health awareness day, and fun through corporate partnerships and sponsorships.
  3. Create a sustainable program to address the barriers faced by low-income families.
